What is Dot Testing?

DOT testing includes physicals, DOT drug screens, DOT alcohol testing

, pre-employment and post-accident testing. A DOT physical examination is conducted by a licensed medical examiner. Certain DOT tests include screening for the presence of alcohol and illegal substances, and may be conducted randomly by employers. DOT regulations state that prior to the first time an individual performs safety-sensitive functions for an employer, the individual shall undergo testing for controlled substances. DOT physicals include a review of the employee's medical history, blood pressure and diabetes testing, and a general physical exam to look for conditions that may impact a CMV driver's ability to safely operate a vehicle.
